Bird Feeders that work best

Allowing Birds in and keeping Squirrels out.

The tall slim bird feeder, with the metal tray underneath, is the most popular with the birds. It is easy for them to perch on, even the Pidgeons have managed to sit on it. The feeder could do with being put in a more sheltered position as high winds tend to blow some of the seeds away. It is easy to fill and there are larger versions.

The second feeder, with the cage around it, does deter the Squirrels, the Fat Ball container is fairly good as well.

The smaller plastic topped containers just do not withstand an attack by the Squirrels. I have found a much more solid one which lies flat against a wall. and it does have a metal top.

The peanuts attract the Squirrels more than anything and of course you have to be careful when putting peanuts out when there are fledglings. They are definitely a hazard for them.
